On Saturday, November 27, 2021, Don Smale lost a battle with Covid-19.Don was an avid supporter of the local area youth programs. Every Friday afternoon you would find him working with the Boulder City Eagles High School Bowling team with his “Bowling Club” where he coached them as well as providing supplies and learning tools. With his help his team was awarded a first place finish in the state finals, where the same team finished last the previous season. In his spare time, he reached out to local businesses to sponsor youth bowling at Boulder Bowl. With an average of $385.00 per sponsor the innovative program developed by Don became known as “Kids Bowl Free”. In addition to this program, Don founded ‘”Just Let Them Bowl”, an advocacy group whose sole purpose is for the repeal of the Match Count Rules governing high school bowling in Nevada.
Don was inducted into the Southern Nevada USBC Hall of Fame in 2015. |
